- talking about Romanesque and Gothic pictures

- showing videos of that time/period- discussing and map drawing of cityplans, European city maps and trade routes- getting to know nothern Italian city cultures through word and picture

- getting to know important functions in trade as well as distinctive features in architecture.

The Renaissance in Architecture

characteristics and terminology of architectural styles using examples from Northern Italy (Firenze), Northern Germany (Hanseatic cities, Bremen, Weserrenaissance), trade cities in Poland (Thorun, Gdansk, Krakow, Zamosc)

Activities and Aims

group work - collecting and analysing informations about the cities and their most important buildings - displaying results on posters (diagrams)

The Weserrenaissance

Bremen, Rathaus (town hall), Roland, Marktplatz (market place)

Weserrenaissance in Brake (in the near of Lemgo), museum of the Weserrenaissance
in Thedinghausen (Gutshof, manor house or estate)

 

Activities and Aims

visit and guided tour of the Bremer Town Hall, interviews with the mayor and other officials, drawing of architectural features and details of the building, writing about the analysis, interview with a stonemason in his studio about the techniques of sculptoning.

trip to the museum of Weserrenaissance in Brake, including a city tour, interviews and taking photos.

trip to Thedinghausen to a manor house, built up in typical Weserrenaissance style, visit, photos, interviews.

writing texts, evaluating the materials, developing films, enlarging photos, sorting and arranging photos and materials and effectivly presenting the results.

The Music of the Renaissance

cooperation with the Hochschule für Künste Bremen, Fachbereich Musik (Academy of Old Music, Bremen) and the Bremer Theater is intended.

Activities and Aims

examples of easy dances, simply plays and secular vocal mucic of the 15th and 16th century will be studied, using todays instruments and methods,studying old dance-steps trying to come to a close adaption of the originals, taking photos and videos of performance.

Completion of annotaded posters, presenting them in an exhibition

Activities and Aims

the aim of the group is to create a piece of work in corporating different texts, posters, maps, drawings and photos.

texts: small essays, papers, descriptions, interviews, headlines/titles pictures: drawing of maps including political borders, cities and historical trade routes drawing of characteristic elements of Renaissance style and architecture, preparing and and printing special layout elements for texts and pictures with computers collecting photos for teaching purpose annotaded posters will be created and then exhibited, for example in an school library
(Stadtbibliothek Bremen Osterholz) posters will be designed, fotocopied, coloured and exhibited
invitations for the exhibition will be designed, fotocopied and handed to guests opening of the exhibition will be thoroughly planned, comprising activities of pupils, for example guided tours given by them.
